Drop off:

bolted on outboards: Drop off just your lower unit. We do not offer removal. We do not offer mechanical services.

Portable outboards (clamp on, typically below 100lbs) can be brought in without splitting them.

Gear oil can and should be left in the lower unit.

Paint/Finished result/Shape:

We do not offer painting services.

Cast aluminum is porous, expect a few pinholes in the surface near the weld. This is normal and mostly unavoidable. Pinholes can be filled with a marine epoxy. (seriously this is normal.)

Shape will be best case, very functional but not 100% to the original factory shape.

Our recommended painting steps: Self etching primer. Fill pinholes with marine epoxy (optional). Paint with an enamel paint.

A word of caution.

Process is key. Avoid Mig welded repairs. There is a high chance it’s going to snap off at the weld. Welding of a skeg should be done TIG, a full penetration weld that should only be done with beveling, gaping and ~400 amp water cooled TIG welding machine. The end result should be ZERO voids.

Material. We use Cast aluminum, not 6061 aluminum plate, which is too stiff and can’t take an impact. We have had customers crash skegs we repaired and they broke in a different area, our welds hold. We offer original factory strength and it’s all the difference.

Skeg Guards. You should know these are bad right off the bat with the installation instructions. Drill through your existing skeg, comprising it’s integrity. Upon the next impact the skeg tends to break off at the drilled holes. Or worse and you end up with a unrepairable lower unit.

Rental Boat Special:

For Marina owners looking to reduce downtime, we are offering skeg reinforcement on lower HP units without power tilt. 3/4” round bar is welded to the leading edge of the lower unit. $250. We have done ~10 of these in 2025 and not had a return/snap off. Pictures below in gallery.

Removal:

Although we do not offer removal/reinstall, If you are handy and can turn wrenches you can likely remove your own. Head over to youtube and search “lower unit removal outboard _______ (your model)” and you may even find a video specifically on the outboard you own. Typically you will be faced with 4 bolts visible on each side of the lower unit and one or two hidden bolts under the trim adjustment fin.

Warranty:

We do not offer warranty of your seals. 99% of the time we can repair skegs with no issue. There is a risk that if your skeg is broke off right at the top (mostly gone) seals could be damaged in the repair process. Typically we have no issues. Sometimes skegs are dropped off already leaking or with water in the oil. We do not warranty seals in any way. We will however do our best to keep temps low and bleed off excess pressure through the oil fill port if needed. We also of course cannot warranty skegs against future rock strikes. That being said, our method is the strongest possible.
