Hit a shoal? We can help.
Material
Skeg repair has to be done right. Just slapping on a piece of stiff 6061 flat bar is a sure way to have it snap off on the first thing it touches. For small repairs/small break offs we use a backing plate and fill with 100% filler wire/weld. For big repairs/break offs we use a full cast aluminum skeg replacement. Softer materials allow flex instead of break away.
Process
Full replacement: Skegs are beveled, gapped, tacked, checked for straightness, root welded, checked for straightness, capped, checked for straightness, smoothed/shaped. The process is similar to pipe welding. The end result being as near to factory strength as possible with 100% penetration/weld bonding the materials together.
Pricing
Pricing ranges from $250 to $450 +HST depending Severity of damage/amount of bend/if we need to use a replacement skeg part or just bits and pieces etc. Send pictures for estimate. You can send a direct message on FB or send an email
Preparation for drop off
Drop off just your lower unit, We do not offer removal.
You can leave the prop attached as it helps verify your new skeg will be long enough.
Leave the gear oil in your lower unit, it will help keep everything cool during welding.
Paint/Finished result
We do not offer painting services. If you are DIY’ing your paint job, we recommend using a self etching primer & Industrial paint.
The finished result/exact shape may not be exactly like factory finish. We are doing a best case scenario repair on skegs. We offer function and strength, shape may not be exactly as factory casting.
